Marine Geophysics and Hydroacoustics

Welcome

The working group 'Marine Geophysics and Hydroacoustics' was established at the University of Kiel in 2012. The main aim of the working group is the analysis of sedimentation processes in the oceans and in lakes by means of acoustic methods.

Research topics include:

  • Marine hazards
  • Gravitational sediment transport on continental margins: landslides and sediment transport in canyons
  • Evolution of lakes
  • Sediment transport in coastal and shelf areas
  • Fluid migration

The available hydroacoustic and seismic systems can be used on large research vessels as well as on small boats. Many components are optimized for application on small boats.
